Safety switch (RCD or RCBO) protection added to your switchboard circuits by our licensed electricians, with testing and a clear record of what is now protected.
From $390 (Per board, installed), including GST. Indicative starting price: the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after a site assessment.
A safety switch, or residual current device (RCD), monitors the current flowing through a circuit and switches off in a fraction of a second if it detects current leaking to earth, for example through a person touching a faulty appliance. Many older Sydney homes have no safety switches, or only one covering the power points, leaving lighting and other circuits unprotected.
Our licensed electricians upgrade your switchboard with RCDs or RCBOs (a combined safety switch and circuit breaker for a single circuit), test every device and label the board clearly. Pricing starts from $390 per board, installed. This is an indicative starting price; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after we inspect your switchboard and count the circuits.
Safety switches are a natural part of our solar and battery work, because new equipment must connect to a board that meets current standards. When a circuit trips, we take the time to find the cause instead of just swapping parts. We are a New Energy Tech Approved Seller with $20 million public liability cover, and every job is completed by our licensed electricians, who explain what they found and what was changed.
Homes, rentals and small businesses with older switchboards, missing safety switches or plans to add solar, a battery or new circuits.
Standards for new work. Under the current Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000), new and altered residential circuits generally need 30 mA RCD protection, with limits on how many circuits share one device. Adding solar, a battery or new circuits is often the moment an older board must be brought up to date.
Adding RCDs sometimes reveals existing wiring or appliance faults that cause tripping. We locate these and quote any repair separately. Old boards with ceramic fuses, asbestos backing or no spare space may need a full switchboard upgrade instead. The price depends on the number of circuits, the choice of RCDs or RCBOs, the board's condition and access.
1. Request a quote and let us know the property type and any tripping problems.
2. Our licensed electrician inspects the switchboard and circuits and recommends RCDs or RCBOs.
3. You receive a fixed written quote listing every device and any remedial work found.
4. We schedule the upgrade and arrange a short planned power shutdown.
5. Each device is installed, tested and labelled, and your compliance certificate is lodged.
The listed price is an indicative starting price; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after we inspect the switchboard.
Boards with ceramic fuses, asbestos material or no space may need a full switchboard upgrade, quoted separately.
Existing wiring or appliance faults revealed by the new safety switches are diagnosed and repaired under a separate quote.
Power is switched off to the property for part of the work.
Rental properties require the owner's or managing agent's written approval before work starts.
