A true off-grid system has no connection to the electricity network, so it must supply every kilowatt-hour your property uses, in every season. We design, supply and install complete stand-alone power systems for small homes, cabins and weekenders across Sydney's surrounds and regional NSW, sized for the worst week of winter rather than a sunny average.
Small home and cabin systems start from $24,900 installed. This is an indicative starting price; the final price depends on your daily energy use, the days of autonomy you need, array size, battery capacity, generator arrangements, cable runs and site access.
What's included
A detailed load audit of every appliance and a seasonal load plan
System design covering array size, battery capacity, days of autonomy and generator input
JA Solar panels on a roof or ground-mount frame
An off-grid capable inverter and LFP battery bank, using equipment from our range such as Sigenergy, GoodWe or Fox ESS where it suits the design
Generator input and changeover arrangements for a new or existing generator
Installation by SAA-accredited installers, with electrical work by our licensed electricians
Remote monitoring set-up where mobile or satellite internet is available
Commissioning and a hands-on handover of how to run the system
Why Blue Energy Solar
Off-grid design is unforgiving: if a system is undersized, the lights go out. We start with a careful load audit and tell you honestly if a hybrid system or a grid connection would serve you better. Our installers are SAA-accredited, and we cover Sydney and a radius of around 200 km, including the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, Bathurst, Orange, Lithgow and Goulburn.
Recommended for
Owners of cabins, small homes and bush blocks where a grid connection is unavailable, unreliable or too expensive to run in.
Living off-grid means matching energy use to the season, and a generator usually remains part of the design for long cloudy spells. A diesel generator used as a primary power source commonly costs $1,500-$4,000+ a year in fuel alone, which is why good solar and battery sizing matters.
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program offers roughly 30% off the installed cost of an eligible battery installed with solar; we confirm eligibility for your system in the quote.
Eligible solar panels can also attract STCs, which reduce the price at the point of sale.
A genuinely off-grid system cannot join a Virtual Power Plant.
Incentive values step down over time, so confirm current values on the official government pages before signing.
Directions
1. Request a quote and tell us about the property, how you use it and any existing generator.
2. We complete a load audit and site visit, including array, battery and generator locations.
3. We send a written design and quote showing autonomy, seasonal performance and any incentives.
4. Once accepted, our SAA-accredited installers install and commission the system.
5. We hand over with training on monitoring, generator use and seasonal energy habits.
Warnings
The price shown is an indicative starting price; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after a site assessment and design.
Battery and STC incentives depend on eligibility and on current values at the time of installation.
Remote sites need suitable vehicle access, and some ground-mounted arrays or equipment buildings may need council approval.
Generator supply, fuel storage and generator servicing are not included unless listed in your quote.
Design and installation are by SAA-accredited installers, with electrical work by our licensed electricians.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on your daily energy use in winter, how many days of cloudy weather the battery should cover and how often you are happy to run a generator. A weekend cabin with efficient appliances needs far less than a full-time home with electric cooking and heating. Our load audit turns your appliances and habits into a daily figure, then we size the array and battery around your worst month.
In most off-grid designs, yes, as a backup for long periods of poor weather or unusually high use. A well-sized solar and battery system means the generator runs occasionally rather than daily. We design a generator input into the system, and it can start automatically on low battery if you choose a generator that supports remote start.
Sometimes. If the network connection would need a long line extension or new poles, off-grid can be the more economical choice. Where a grid connection is close and affordable, a grid-connected or hybrid system usually costs less over its life. We compare both honestly and recommend a hybrid or grid-connected design when it serves you better.
LFP batteries need far less hands-on care than older lead-acid banks, but the system still benefits from regular attention. Service the generator as its manufacturer specifies, watch the monitoring for changes in performance and arrange panel cleaning when dust builds up. We recommend a periodic professional inspection of connections, isolators and battery health so small issues are caught early.
