Every building and business has a maximum supply capacity. Add several EV chargers drawing 7-22 kW each and that limit can be reached quickly, causing tripped breakers, frustrated users or pressure for an expensive supply upgrade. An EV load-management system solves this by measuring total demand at the main supply in real time and sharing the spare capacity between chargers, reducing charging power when the site is busy and increasing it when demand falls.

A load-management system starts from $1,490 per site, installed. This is an indicative starting price; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after we assess your supply, switchboard and chargers.

What's included

  • Assessment of the main supply rating, maximum demand and existing chargers
  • Current sensors or an energy meter at the main supply
  • A controller or software platform linking compatible chargers
  • Configuration of site limits, priority rules and phase balancing
  • Communication cabling or network set-up between chargers
  • Installation by our licensed electricians, with testing under simulated load

Why Blue Energy Solar

Load management is often the difference between a building that can support EV charging now and one that needs major supply works first. We start with the numbers, the supply rating and the site's actual peak demand, then set conservative limits that protect the supply with a safety margin. We check that your chargers can communicate with the system and recommend compatible units where they cannot. For strata buildings, we set rules that treat residents fairly and explain them clearly to the committee, so there are no surprises when more residents start charging.

Recommended for

Strata buildings and commercial sites adding several EV chargers to a supply with limited spare capacity.

Compatibility: chargers must support the load-management protocol or controller used. Some older or basic chargers cannot be controlled and may need replacing.

Charging speed: at busy times each car may charge more slowly, but vehicles parked for several hours usually still receive a useful charge.

Approvals: works on strata common property need owners corporation approval, and leased sites need landlord consent.

Limits: if the site's spare capacity is very low, load management may only delay a supply upgrade.

Price drivers: the number of chargers, the distance between the main switchboard and chargers, and the communication method.

Directions

1. Request an assessment and tell us how many chargers you have or plan to install.
2. We check the supply rating, peak demand and charger compatibility.
3. You receive a fixed-price quote with proposed site limits and priority rules.
4. Our licensed electricians install the sensors, controller and communications.
5. We test under load, set the rules and hand over monitoring access.

Warnings

The price shown is an indicative starting price per site; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after a site assessment and quote.
Chargers must be compatible with the load-management system; replacement chargers are quoted separately.
Installations on strata common property require owners corporation approval, and leased sites require landlord consent.
Load management shares existing capacity, so full charging speed will not always be available.
Some systems require an ongoing software subscription, which is confirmed in your quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the supply rating, the site's existing peak demand and how long vehicles park. Because cars rarely all need full power at the same time, load management often allows more chargers than simple arithmetic suggests. We calculate a realistic number from your data and set a safety margin below the supply limit.

The system measures demand continuously and reduces charger output within seconds when total use approaches the set limit. When demand drops, charging speeds back up automatically. Compatible chargers can also be configured to fall back to a safe low-power setting if communication with the controller is lost.

Many systems can. Priority rules can favour fleet vehicles due out first, visitor bays, or cars with a low state of charge where the charger has that information. In strata buildings, equal sharing is usually the fairest default. We set rules that match how your site works and can adjust them as needs change.

Yes, where the system and chargers support it. Some load-management systems can also use solar export as an input, directing more charging power to vehicles when solar is producing. On commercial sites this can reduce the grid energy used for charging. We explain what your chosen system supports before you commit.
