On many business tariffs, one short spike in demand sets a charge that applies for the whole month, or longer. Peaks often happen when several large loads start together: compressors, air-conditioning, ovens, pumps or EV chargers. A demand management system watches site demand in real time and, as it approaches a limit you set, staggers start-ups or briefly sheds loads that can wait, keeping the peak lower.

We use your interval data and a site assessment to decide which loads can be controlled without affecting operations, then design, install and commission the system. Projects start from $4,900 per site. This is an indicative starting price; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after data analysis and a site assessment.

What's included

  • Analysis of your interval meter data and demand tariff
  • Site assessment of major loads and which can be delayed or cycled
  • Design of demand limits, load priorities and restore sequences
  • Supply and installation of a demand controller and metering
  • Control wiring to selected loads by our licensed electricians
  • Commissioning, operator training and override procedures
  • A post-installation review of results against your previous peaks

Why Blue Energy Solar

Our commercial work always starts with interval data, because demand charges are often a large part of a business electricity bill. We consider solar, batteries and power-factor correction alongside load control, so you get the most cost-effective combination rather than a single product. We are a New Energy Tech Approved Seller with $20 million public liability cover, and all control wiring is installed by our licensed electricians.

Recommended for

Commercial and industrial sites on demand tariffs where compressors, HVAC, ovens, chargers or pumps create short, expensive peaks.

Operations come first. Only loads that can safely wait a few minutes, such as some HVAC units, water heating, pumps or EV chargers, are included. Critical refrigeration, safety systems and essential process equipment are excluded or given strict limits.

Results depend on your tariff structure, how peaks occur and how much flexible load you have; sites with one very large, non-flexible load may need a battery-based peak shaving system instead. The price depends on the number of controlled loads, cabling distances, switchboard configuration and integration with existing controls. Where a building management system already exists, we can often work through it.

Directions

1. Request an assessment and share 12 months of bills, plus interval data if available.
2. We analyse your peaks and walk the site to identify flexible loads.
3. You receive a design with demand limits, load priorities and a fixed written quote.
4. Our licensed electricians install the controller, metering and control wiring.
5. We commission the system, train your staff and set override procedures.
6. We review performance against your previous peaks and fine-tune the settings.

Warnings

The listed price is an indicative starting price; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after data analysis and a site assessment.
You approve every load included and its maximum delay or off time before commissioning.
Estimated demand reductions are based on historical data and are not assured.
Integration with existing building or plant controls depends on access and compatibility.
Planned shutdowns for switchboard work are scheduled with you in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most business sites with a smart or interval meter have 15 or 30 minute data held by their retailer or metering provider, and you can usually request it. If you're unsure, send us your latest bills and we can explain what to ask for. Where data is unavailable, we can install temporary logging before designing the system.

The aim is that they don't. Controlled loads are delayed or cycled for short periods, and priorities are set so comfort and production are protected. For example, air-conditioning units can take turns rather than all starting at once. Overrides are available, and we adjust the settings during the review period if anything affects operations.

Usually, because it uses loads you already have instead of adding storage. It works best when enough flexible load exists at the time of the peak. If peaks come from equipment that can't be delayed, a battery-based peak shaving system may be needed, and NSW business battery incentives may help. We compare both options using your data.

Demand charges are usually based on the highest peak in each billing period, so the first full billing period after commissioning is the first real test. Some tariffs use rolling or seasonal peaks, which can delay the visible change. We explain how your tariff works and compare logged peaks from day one, so you can see progress before the bill arrives.
